Jazz House Kids will mark International Jazz Day – April 30, 2012 – by offering a series of programs over several days to bring people together and celebrate America's great art form:
Saturday, April 28, 1:00 – 4:00 pm
The Art of Improvisation
Gallery U, 179 Glenridge Avenue, Montclair, NJ
(registration required: 1st grade to professionals)
It's a jazz-art jam! Jazz influenced the colorful works of Romare Bearden. What kind of art will you make while our musicians play? Led by Deirdre Harris-Kelley of the Romare Bearden Foundation.
During the November 2011 UNESCO General Conference, the international community proclaimed 30 April as "International Jazz Day" – a day to bring together communities, schools, artists, historians, academics, and jazz enthusiasts all over the world to celebrate and learn about the art of jazz, its roots, its future and its impact. This important international art form will be celebrated for promoting peace, dialogue among cultures, diversity, and respect for human rights and human dignity, eradicating discrimination, promoting freedom of expression, fostering gender equality, and reinforcing the role of youth for social change.
Join Jazz House Kids as they celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month and International Jazz Day.
